In http://git-scm.com/documentation it lists under the "Longer, More in Depth" links a reference to Git for Computer Scientists.  Another documentation with a similar approach, but more elaborated, is:

  http://www.newartisans.com/blog_files/git.from.bottom.up.php

I'd like to request a link to that article be added to the list.

I don't know how Scott (cc'd) usually handles this, but maybe a patch to
http://github.com/schacon/gitscm ?
