I like it. Even better would be:

  write_script() {
        echo "#!$2" >"$1" &&
        cat >>"$1" &&
        chmod +x "$1"
  }

  write_script foo.sh "$SHELL_PATH" <<-\EOF
    echo my arguments are "$@"
  EOF
