I should've noted earlier that this patch applies cleanly on top of the
"jc/tests-use-lf-from-test-lib" branch.

Oops, this invocation wasn't exactly correct; it's missing the `t/` at
the end. The full invocation should read `git grep =\\\\\' t/`.
