This should have been addressed in tig-0.14.1.

According to the ncurses FAQ, it is not straight forward to use
readline. Of course you could call out, but then views loading in the
background would stop working. I know this part of tig hasn't received
a lot of work, and it has been noted in the TODO. I would be happy to
give you some pointers if you are interested in looking into this
yourself.
