These are not very portable; use:
GIT_DIR="$(pwd)"/repo.git
GIT_CONFIG="$GIT_DIR"/config
GIT_WORK_TREE="$(pwd)"/work
export GIT_DIR GIT_CONFIG GIT_WORK_TREE
The first one also needs $(pwd) quoted.
