msysGit: "git filter-branch --subdirectory-filter" doesn't work at all

msysGit: "git filter-branch --subdirectory-filter" doesn't work at all

I'm using msysGit 1.5.5.1015.g9d258 (the latest). When I try

$ git filter-branch --subdirectory-filter perl

in my git.git repo it only says

Usage: C:/Programme/Git/bin/git-filter-branch ... [--subdirectory-filter 
<directory>] ...

I.e. git-filter-branch doesn't work at all under msysGit. No matter
what other switches I give. The answer is always only the usage
information. Is this a known issue or am I doing sth. wrong?

Not that I currently have any application for git-filter-branch,
I'm just curious.

And what branch, exactly, do you want to rewrite?  You did not specify 
_any_ branch here.

thanks, that helped a lot. As said, I've no
actual use case for git-filter-branch but was just curious
about the usage. So this wasn't an issue with msysGit or
Windows, even though I thought that at first glance.

As I noticed from one of your replies to the
'Commit cce8d6fdb introduces...' thread, you seem to be
somewhat annoyed by people asking for Windows compatibility.
That was not the case here, I just wanted to state that. ;-)

To my opinion the --subdirectory-filter switch isn't documented
very well. When I find out and have an example, I'll post it.

Heh.  I am not annoyed because of the Windows compatibility.  I am annoyed 
by people not itching their scratch; Git's source code is clean enough 
that just about any coder can fix their pet bug.
