FWIW, I use git on Cygwin and it works quite well.  Cygwin supports
Windows paths when quoted.  So

$ ls 'C:\Users\vijay\Desktop'

works as expected.  This is very useful when you're copying paths from,
say, Windows Explorer, to Cygwin.
