Is that expected or is it a bug (I tried versions "1.5.2.4" and "1.5.3.rc3.91.g5c75-dirty")? If I do: git-ls-files -o --exclude-per-directory=.gitignore --exclude-from=$HOME/.gitignore it works more like I'd expect.
