If not, don't. frankly, unless I am willing for fork git (which I am not) it matters a whole lot less if such a change is acceptable to me then if it is acceptable to the maintainers. if it's not acceptable to the maintainers as a concept then it's not worth going to the effort of producing the patches as they will just be rejected.
