Here are the topics that have been cooking in my tree. Commits
prefixed with '+' are in 'next' (being in 'next' is a sign that a
topic is stable enough to be used and are candidate to be in a
future release). Commits prefixed with '-' are only in 'seen', and
aren't considered "accepted" at all and may be annotated with an URL
to a message that raises issues but they are no means exhaustive. A
topic without enough support may be discarded after a long period of
no activity (of course they can be resubmit when new interests
arise).
Copies of the source code to Git live in many repositories, and the
following is a list of the ones I push into or their mirrors. Some
repositories have only a subset of branches.
Git 2.53 has been tagged. Let's wait to see if there are regression
reports from the real world and then start the new cycle.
With maint, master, next, seen, todo:

With all the integration branches and topics broken out:

Even though the preformatted documentation in HTML and man format
are not sources, they are published in these repositories for
convenience (replace "htmldocs" with "manpages" for the manual
pages):

* cf/c23-const-preserving-strchr-updates-0 (2026-02-04) 1 commit
- global: constify some pointers that are not written to
ISO C23 redefines strchr and friends that tradiotionally took
a const pointer and returned a non-const pointer derived from it to
preserve constness (i.e., if you ask for a substring in a const
string, you get a const pointer to the substring). Update code
paths that used non-const pointer to receive their results that did
not have to be non-const to adjust.

Transaction to create objects (or not) is currently tied to the

sources, which may have different transaction mechanisms. Make the
odb transaction API per object source.

* hn/status-compare-with-push (2026-01-22) 3 commits
- status: add status.compareBranches config for multiple branch comparisons
- refactor format_branch_comparison in preparation
- Merge branch 'jk/remote-tracking-ref-leakfix' into hn/status-compare-with-push
(this branch uses jk/remote-tracking-ref-leakfix.)
"git status" learned to show comparison between the current branch
and its push destination as well as its upstream, when the two are
different (i.e., triangular workflow).

The core.attributesfile is intended to be set per repository, but

been corrected by moving it to per-repository data structure.

I think this is a good first step to fix breakage. We can still iterate
on top of it.

This series looks ready to me. There's two comments about the downcast
that should use `container_of()` and changes to the tmp_objdir subsystem
tto work with `struct odb_source` instead of with the complete repo. But
we agreed to handle both of these in follow-up patch series.

I guess this one depends on the outcome of the discussion we had about
renaming stuff. I think it's worth the churn, and don't expect to do
another reroll. Otherwise I guess the series can be discarded.

There's been some discussions around the mtime handling, but I think
I've addressed the concerns both with documentation in v4 and with the
plans I've layed out in <aXcrftLpfcG4S5AX@pks.im> and subsequent
messages.

From the ref side of things I'm fine with this series now, and I
couldn't come up with any other scenarios where the PID file would cause
problems. So I think this is in a good enough state now.

I expect another reroll of this series with the comments I posted.

After having it in 'seen' for half a month, we haven't seen any new
users to conflict with it, so I am inclined to say we go ahead and
merge it down.

Let me ping the thread. Taylor asked a bit more time to discuss
mtime related changes a week ago and I do not recall seeing a
