This is an interesting solution. And git-am could call git-munge
automatically before feeding the patches to mailinfo, replacing
  git mailinfo $keep $utf8 "$dotest/msg" "$dotest/patch" \
      <"$dotest/$msgnum" >"$dotest/info"
with
  git munge "$dotest/$msgnum" | git mailinfo etc
