What about env part of git-var output:

  $ git var -l
  alias.less=-p cat-file -p
  core.repositoryformatversion=0
  core.filemode=true
  [...]
  GIT_COMMITTER_IDENT=Jakub Narebski <jnareb@gmail.com> 1169974258 +0100
