Linux-4.18.20 fail to boot on old intel gfx card.
I also tried a fresh installed Debian testing with same kernel version,
still can't boot, even to command line interface.

after blacklisting i915, Debian testing can boot to command line
interface. but when I tried to modprobe i915, screen blanks, shows
nothing.

while Linux-4.18.6 is good to boot to UI.

here is my hardware information:

I found on Debian testing with kernel 4.18.20 fail boot, kernel panic
on i915. and reported it to Debian bug 917280 [0], with panic log[1].

after revert:

The 4.18 stable branch is no longer maintained.

I suspect this is the same as <https://bugs.debian.org/914495> and
<https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108850>, which is fixed
in 4.19 (currently in unstable).

Unfortunately 4.18 is EOL so the fix will never get backported.
You'll need to upgrade to a more recent kernel.
