And you still have to figure out if you wanted to do research specifically on the Linux kernel itself, or your topic of interest is something else and Linux is just a useful tool. For example: Using Linux as a basis for testing new ideas in virtual memory management is different from a project studying the Linux memory manager. And since a PhD thesis is supposed to be new original research, you'll have a lot easier time selling a "new ideas in virtual memory management" thesis than "studying existing code" thesis.... So what is it *exactly* that you wanted to do a thesis on? --==_Exmh_1570142616_7127P Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Exmh version 2.9.0 11/07/2018 iQIVAwUBXZZ5mAdmEQWDXROgAQLqDRAAo2gPWS8diOa+39fmh1YIYAMOjZ8Xyq8K 0OBuWDwQWxFVBsN34QPTLI6EH8w1hnVVNlQQevuGJFDEztcpZOecNEuBpxedRP4X UowH/WBhzBkn55xrYdwqJgXinRkht67GeT6mIRCjzq4h6e0Rht/sNEsKNZbVks00 kBmft8zXPVtRhjJN4+h/OIIEMUtDsNve5ckELdGVL08imbBzVVmlEqZ8M9rVRnbN p1dbIhMehRio8ozpzEuZGeEJnITY/i7xLRA6ObM8MVk4evuEWXxstfTKmK4E5OPL X08N5TRJQE3ebjXcRMpjw7bO1sm59bUW7y+FSeL4kGcTzT6tqP6Vk4xLPzaTHwNk 4RTTC7AKrrDBKESgt6s4kWMZE16qNgX60UcHpbUm0ilg+ml8cpkUrRNqCsJxRZKb 1HqWhZTHsXWkNfBxsWTQaenzEqdivPZg1jyUayycj7tqMLDcZlD8kervWmT8qSdA 8op5rvk+dv8gdDfVS8FMSIvbIMIHsnfelucXR0cbXncr6pLVoaNiTvhVjhQu2B9c 05OBibxBpCxSdhiEgi5F1m64PZc8D6eRlpWeRKZVbfiYmZBEg+4J75LUasNhLMkb gTMbYgvT4LwwNB0OlV4TISGEckxY57AtPYsS64txQOaDR8/u+6SUIKTBrxTBj4dt 6kB4rYPWwIg= =DQiX -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --==_Exmh_1570142616_7127P-- --===============8620534308953053312== Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline _______________________________________________ Kernelnewbies mailing list Kernelnewbies@kernelnewbies.org https://lists.kernelnewbies.org/mailman/listinfo/kernelnewbies --===============8620534308953053312==--
