I added a page on the wiki to track the status of various guest
operating systems, and seeded it with my usual testcases.

Please add your favorite guests to the page so others can see at a
glance what works and what doesn't. Please mention any workarounds
(e.g. for the big real mode problems) in the comments column.

You should add a column for the host CPU. It really makes a difference
in some cases.

Maybe there should also be a colum for the Host-OS too.

I expect that host OS will affect all guests equally. Maybe we should
have a "Host support page", but I'm not sure there's such a need as we
have many more guests than hosts, and usually all hosts will work.

Well currently I'm using Fedora Core 6 as a host. And kvm doesn't work with all but the original kernel.

title Fedora Core (2.6.19-1.2895.fc6) <-- Doesn't
title Fedora Core (2.6.18-1.2869.fc6) <-- Doesn't
title Fedora Core (2.6.18-1.2798.fc6) <-- Works

I am currently not able to find out how.

It's working for me under 2.6.19-1.2895.fc6. Is there anything in
dmesg? What form does the failure take?

Well, after stressing the guest a couple of times for a couple of
seconds, it starts to use 100% and the guest doesn't respond anymore.

# uname -a
Linux corevm 2.6.19-1.2895.fc6 #1 SMP Wed Jan 10 19:28:18 EST 2007 i686
i686 i386 GNU/Linux

# dmesg | grep kvm
kvm: msrs: 2
kvm: msrs: 2
kvm: emulating exchange as write

# top
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 1625 root 25 0 564m 143m 138m R 100 4.0 4:32.77 qemu

# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep name
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz

the problem might be: different qemu and kvm-module version ... (older
qemu, newer kvm), because afetr deleteing everything related to kvm and
rebudiling it from a clean source. the problem seems to be gone ..

Okay, good... If it was you who put 2.6.19-1.2895.fc6 as non-working in
the wiki, then please remove it :)

Yesterday everything seemed to be fine - I cleaned everything: removed old modules and binaries and built kvm-12 - but today I discovered that the problem reappeared: 100% CPU utilization and no real reason for this.
FC6 host and guest. The host using the latest kernel (2.6.19-1.2895.fc6) the guest teh original one ...

No new messages in dmesg. Nothing changed and not heavily used over night.

Can you post an 'strace -ttT -p <pid>'?

Test with 'taskset 1'?

Also, please describe your host hardware.
