No immediate plans, but of course I'd like to have that limitation lifted.

I'd expect kvm to be 64-bit clean (esp. with a 64-bit host).  Did you 
check in kvmctl.c whether the memory slot created was actually > 2GB?  
Maybe there are further places in qemu/libkvm that need fixing.
