I.e. it does not release :-) The actual behaviour depends on actual kvm version: in kvm-19 it might have been actually released, but the pointer remained frozen even after I have killed qemu process from console (I was able to switch to it using ctrl alt F1 sequence). In latest version (kvm 22) the system froze very reliably - I couldn't even switch the virtual console and had to reset the box. Before I used ctrl alt sequence pointer worked in guest system (windows 2000) normally. My kernel is 2.6.21, for X server nvidia proprietory drivers are used.
