Hi,

I got following error when I run qemu,

kvm kernel version too old: KVM_GET_API_VERSION ioctl not supported
Could not initialize KVM, will disable KVM support

I am using kvm-26 on Intel core duo T2300
kvm and kvm_intel modules are loaded without any error.
Kernel Version is : 2.6.20-16-generic ( ubuntu 7.04 i386 )

kvm-26 release announcement says:
If you use the modules from kvm-26, you can use any version of
Linux from 2.6.9 upwards.

Is my kernel not compatible with latest kvm ?

Regards,
Ameya.

Hi,

Sorry for the previous error report.

Actually I upgraded ubuntu kernel and forgot to remove
default kvm modules which come with kernel.

Now its working properly.

But it seems to be a problem with 2 different installation
locations for kvm modules,

/lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/kernel/drivers/kvm
&
/lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/extra

Every time I upgrade kernel I have to remember to
delete default kvm modules :(

Regards,
Ameya.

Yes. Someone suggested to overwrite the files in kernel/drivers/kvm but
I don't like removing files that I didn't create. Maybe rename
drivers/kvm/*.ko to drivers/kvm/*.ko.orig?
