Hello All,
I was trying to get Vista 64-bit to boot off QEMU and was pointed to this
list from the QEMU developers list. From the guest compatibility page I
could gather that KVM with Intel host is able to boot a Vista 64-bit guest,
however the stand-alone version of QEMU does not (yet) support booting
Vista. Could someone please provide more insight as to how this is achieved.
My understanding is that there are problems in:
1. ACPI code in QEMU BIOS
2. Deficiencies in device model
I believe that these issues are addressed in the QEMU tree being maintained
with KVM. Is there anything additional which KVM does to get Vista to work?
Thanks for the help.
Regards,
Anup

ok we did have some work to make vista 64 to work
but there are still problems with it
right now you can boot it but it might crush after some usage...
we probably know at what area the problem is, but it might take some
time to fix it
but i think that kvm-36 (some kind of old) should run it very stable...
so i suggest first trying to run it on the latest kvm, and if you have
problems for now use kvm-36 untill we
will fix this bug...
(sorry for the late response, i saw this mail and wanted to reply but i
forgat :))

You might try using the kvm bios, or looking at the changelog for the bios.
There may be other necessary changes as well, but unfortunately nothing
springs to mind.
