hi,
mandrake-10 are not able to boot on kvm 71-73 while it's working on
kvm-70. we noew try to install a minimal mandrake-10 from it's install
cd and after the first boot it has the same error:
lilo can't find keytable (or something like that).
booting from a rescue cd we still able to rerun lilo and it seems to
working, but not able to boot.
after we downgrade to kvm-70 the system boot without any problem.

Can you mix and match to see whether it is a userspace problem or kernel
problem?

e.g. kvm-71 userspace with kvm-70 modules, kvm-70 userspace with kvm-71
modules.

yes.
kvm-73 with kmod-kvm-70: not working
kvm-70 with kmod-kvm-73: working
is it totally safe to use higher kernel module then usersapce? i can i
leave it here as it now?:
kmod-kvm-2.6.18-92.1.10.el5-73-1
kmod-kvm-73-1
kvm-70-1

anyway the exact error message:
"LILO - Keytable read/checksum error"

So it's userspace breakage.

Can you check with kvm-71 userspace to be certain that the breakage
occured in kvm-71?

Yes. Of course mixed versions are not tested by many people, but they
are supported.

no it's between 71 and 72 (i'm just not used 71 since it kmod not
compiled on rhel-5.2).

the situation is more stranger (but probably another bug)
kvm-70 (and kvm-71) with kmod-kvm-73: working if and only if i start
mandrake-10 as the first guest, if i start other guest and after i start
mandrake-10 (both from command line and virt-manager) i've got this (not
too long) error:
-----------------------------------------------------
# /usr/bin/qemu-kvm -S -M pc -m 512 -smp 1 -name mandrake-10 -monitor
pty -boot c -drive
file=/dev/VolGroup00/mandrake-10,if=ide,index=0,boot=on -net
nic,macaddr=00:16:3e:03:37:eb,vlan=0 -net
tap,fd=20,script=,vlan=0,ifname=vnet3 -serial none -parallel none -usb
-vnc 127.0.0.1:0
bind() failed
-----------------------------------------------------
if i stop all other guest and start mandrake-10 again then it's work
again?! but it's another problem and seems to exist in kvm-70 too.

bind() failed indicates that you are trying to run more than one guest
on the same VNC port that is 127.0.0.1:0 is used on more than one guest
so the second one cannot bind to port 5900.

ok this last one was my fault:-(
but i retest is again.
- kvm-74 with kmod-kvm-74 not working
- kvm-71 with kmod-kvm-74 working
any progress with this?
anyone can test it with a simple minimal mandrake-10 install. after the
install the system can't boot.
yours.

The ISO for the first CD is corrupted; I downloaded it twice, yet I get
the wrong md5sum (and installation fails on some bad package).

Do you have an alternate location?

It's broken too. Maybe it was broken on the master and everyone
mirrored it.

If you have a good copy, please upload it somewhere.

Well, it installs and runs perfectly.

Can you describe what's going wrong? What's your host cpu?

What's the guest kernel? Is it updated relative to the madrake-10 release?

I was able to install and run mandrake 10 a couple of weeks ago, so
maybe this only happens together with an update.

ok i don't know any other solution so
- install kvm-71 to the host
- install a guest mandrake-10 truly minimal install into file image
- upgrade to kvm-76 and the guest no longer boot.
so i've uploaded it for you into:
ftp://ftp.bppiac.hu/mandrake.img.bz2
(this is the bzip-ed image:-)
can you try to boot this image with kvm-76 (or anything later than kvm-71)?

getting more and more strange:-(
ok which disto, kernel, etc..
could you test in with a minimal fully updated centos-5 x86_64 intel
proc with these rpms (of course the latest kernel-2.6.18-92.1.13.el5):
http://www.lfarkas.org/linux/packages/centos/5/x86_64/kmod-kvm-2.6.18-92.1.13.el5-76-1.x86_64.rpm
http://www.lfarkas.org/linux/packages/centos/5/x86_64/kmod-kvm-76-1.x86_64.rpm
http://www.lfarkas.org/linux/packages/centos/5/x86_64/kvm-76-1.x86_64.rpm
what else can be different? just the distro and the kernel or...?

ok what else can i do?
or it's getting more and more unusable to use rhel-5 as the host os
(which is strage after rh buy qumranet) and would be better to switch to
fedora?

RHEL 5 continues to be supported. This problem is strange, that's all.

If you have a test machine, it would be good to try it out on Fedora. I
don't see how a distro change can cause this though.

any chance that you can test rhel or centos 5 in the near future? i
assume kvm userspace will fail on this host with the image i send to you.

ok. now i use a fully updated fedora-9 with kernel-2.6.26.5-45.fc9.i686
and kvm-74 (after rebuild
fedora/development/source/SRPMS/kvm-74-4.fc10.src.rpm) test this ismage
and the same error happened as with rhel/centos-5 x86_64. so it seems to
be happened with both 32 and 64 bit and much newer kernel too.
which is also strange that the fedora-9's current kvm-65-9.fc9.i386 also
produce the same bug.
which means i can't image where did you test it?
can you test it anyhow?
i'm sure it's kvm userspace bug introduced after kvm-71.
