What would be a good storage topology for allowing for migration as well as support snapshots (for backup)
Would love to hear recommendations as well as details on setup that people are using. (I am assuming that this is possible.)
Here is my current understanding..
LVM -- Snapshots but not shared.
CLVM -- shared but no snapshots. (yet)
NFS/GFS -- Shared FS but no snapshots
qcow2 files and VHD file supports snapshots... but VHD is not yet available in Xen or KVM.
qcow2 : are people using this in production ? Any limitations.. any success stories ?
qcow2 takes snapshots within the disk it self... how can I get the snapshot out for backup ?

blktap2 backend in Xen supports VHD.

Thanks.
It seems this is post 3.4 release.. any plans on getting these for older version ? (may be a question for xen-devel forum.)
What about KVM ? Is there a plan to get this in to qemu / kvm ? Also, make it available to older versions of qemu/kvm.
Just trying to see how this important feature can be used by people currently (which are using xen and kvm from their distros.)

Yeah, blktap2 is only in xen-unstable.hg, not in xen-3.4-testing.hg.
blktap2 will be part of upcoming Xen 4.0 release.
I believe the patches should apply to xen 3.4 aswell:

qemu has a 'vpc' format driver which appears to refer to vhd. It's
likely an older version (from the virtual PC days). It won't give you
good performance, but you might try it out.
