I did the following:
git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/kvm/qemu-kvm.git 
qemu-kvm-2010-03-17
cd qemu-kvm-2010-03-17
git checkout -b test qemu-kvm-0.12.3
./configure
make -j6 && make install

I started the VM again exactly as I did the last time and it crashed 
again with the same error message.
"qemu-system-x86_64: 
/usr/local/src/qemu-kvm-2010-03-17/hw/ide/internal.h:507: 
bmdma_active_if: Assertion `bmdma->unit != (uint8_t)-1' failed."
