Sorry, 3.8 works and 3.9 doesn't
(66cdd0ceaf65a18996f561b770eedde1d123b019 was the 3.8 merge window
update, and your bisect shows it as good).

Can you double-check this with both normal "modprobe kvm_intel" and
"modprobe kvm_intel emulate_invalid_guest_state=0"?
