I tried to upgrade memory on my laptop from 2 x 128m by replacing one of the chips
with a 256m chip (these are PC2100 SODIMMS in case that matters). The new chip
appears to be fine - I do not see any memory corruptions or whatnot and I ran
memtest without any problems.
However there are two issues related to ACPI with this new chip (the problems
go away when I replace it with the old one):
1) when booting I get these error when "ec" module is being loaded:

Did you override your DSDT?

So you need to modify your _new_ _original_ DSDT again after the memory
upgrade.
AFAIK the DSDT contains numbers that depend on the amount of memory and
is often built dynamically by the BIOS => even changing some BIOS settings
may change the DSDT.

Thanks! I'll try it out. I thought DSDT was static...

Fedor ... I've the same problem with an Aspire 3000 series laptop here.
Increasing RAM from "stock" (256MB up to 512 with a limit of 2GB) gives
me a similar plethora of errors and some hardware that suddenly won't
work. Now this is with a "repaired" DSDT loaded via intrd image. The
stock DSDT that cannot compile runs the larger ram but with it there is
no battery. This is with 2.6.10 on Ubuntu and 2.6.11 on Mandriva.

removing custom DSDT worked. Fortunately all fixes in DSDT are
non-critical.
Fedor.
