Since nobody answer, I will try give some feed-back was you write
someone find that very particular case, doesn't mean that gcc 2.95 is
better , may be a lucky point.
So my advice get lastest (stable) compiler and lastest kernel and report
any problem that you may have, with some luck you will get back your
functionalities.

btw what is the bios age ?
