Hello All,
Firstly I'm not 100% certain if this is better here or LKML, If I'm
wrong then I'll happily move the discussion there.
I'm running kernel 2.5.44 with the acpi-20021022 aptches applied. I do how
ever have a small problem. I have tested swsusp and the suspend went well.
Unfortuantly I get an ooops on resume. I'm happy to look at the cause
(provide oops and ksyms) BUT the docs say more or less "If you touch your FS
between suspend and resume then kiss your data goodbye".
What I need to know is what is the safest way to get my machine back?
Can I just boot into another kernel and hope my FS won't be too badly
corrupted?
In case it matters I have a sony Vaio PCGFX990
(http://www.sony.com.au/vaio/products/index.cfm?catid=19479&prodid=PCGFX990)
Yours Tony

swsusp is a little unstable with this kernel.

No. A simple fsck should be OK, but be warned that this kernel has
a known bug for fs corruption, and is somehow broken in syncing ide
disks. Take a look at 2.5.44-ac5 instead.

If you can't resume, forcing fsck is okay. Suspend-modify-successfull
resume would be time-to-kiss-data.

Great, I'm running 2.5.44-ac5 ATM (does 2.5.45 have the same IDE issues?) that
has other swsups issues for me but I think they're mostly my own doing.
Incase it is of use to anyone My original (handwritten oops) is available at:
http://thor.cantech.net.au/~tony/swsusp/hand.txt
and the results of running that through ksymoops 2.4.6 are at
http://thor.cantech.net.au/~tony/swsusp/ksymoops.txt
I think I've made at least one mistake in the oops :(
Thanks to all that gave advice on getting my machine back. I'll be less
squeamish next time (and I'll have backups of the rwally important stuf just
in case)
Yours Tony
