Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FX601 (FXA53 is the US model) and I wondering it
it support S4bios.
If it is supported, I need an A0 suspend partition?
FX601 model has same bios of FX60x, FX70x and perhaps FX80x models, is
there someone that has such notebooks that made S4bios to work?

I use kernel 2.4.20+APCI 20021205+swsusp16 but resuming after swsusp
my pc hangs almost the time.

If it can helps, pmtools say:

Well, I think that you should have such partition. This one have a
Phoenix bios, no? Try lphdisk at http://www.procyon.com/~pda/lphdisk/
or do a apt-get install lphdisk if you are on a Debian GNU/Linux.

Should be OK.

The Flags part say that you can not use S4Bios, certainly because the
BIOS know that you don't have a suspend partition.

The Flags part have bit 0 set if you can enter S4Bibos.

Yes, bios is Phoenix and I have debiani; lphdisk already got.
My question is why to make suspend partition I must resize a 11GB ext2
partition and must buckup it.

ok, as I suspected.
Thanks very much.

For other BIOS brands like Award there is a DOS utility called
"zvhdd.exe" which created such a partition. But also with this one I had
no luck on my Award Asus notebook.

Do you have framebuffer console?
This was a problem with my notebook and swsusp! Now I have plain VGA
textmode and swsusp works again.

Err ... mine sais S4BIOS_REQ: 0x00.
Does this mean I do not have S4BIOS at all?

Fixed in swsusp but for 2.5 series AFAICT. I don't know for 2.4 series.

I believe that you need to call a BIOS function in order to register
your partition (or even a file). This call need to be 'discovered'
somehow, though.

No, plain text mode.
I think proplem is related to pcmcia network card (a 3Com 589).

But if S4bios works I prefer it due to linux/freebsd dual boot.

BTW, freebsd s4bios work for you? For me, it work like a charm, but
I have no pcmcia card to play with.

I must repartitoin my HD before test S4bios.
I'll make you know.

Made A0 suspend partition and formatted using lphdisk.
S4Bios now work for freebsd, I'm using 4.6, under text mode.
Suspend work even if PCMCIA network card remains into socket.
If I suspend while X is up, computer hangs (suspend-to-disk do not
start at all).
Time to try newer versions with acpi support :)

While using linux 2.4.20 + acpi-20021205 and 2 patches posted to this
ML some time ago (s4bios-2.4.20-acpi-20021205 and
00_system_fix_s4bios-2.4.20-acpi-20021205) suspend doesn't works.
echo -n 4b >/proc/acpi/sleep make bios to start hibernation process, but
on resuming system hangs after datas from suspend partition are loaded.
The bios resume screen remains on the screen and I must power cycle the
notebook.

Any idea?

I'm using console. I did not compile framebuffer into my kernel.
How can I produce info for debug?

I got some trouble with an usb mouse, also the PCI config space of
the pcmcia hubs was not properly restored.
Could you try without usb nor any pcmcia cards please?

Done, but problem is still the same.
I tried to not load usb and pcmcia modules at all (not removing after
load), only acpi modules loaded and still the same. Pcmcia sockets were
empty.
Must I compile acpi built into kernel?
