Hi,
I am trying to get "standby" to work on my Sony vaio laptop. I did:
echo -n "standby" > /sys/power/state
But this only flashes the screen once (in X this is more noticeable) and
resumes immediately.
Dmesg shows:
PM: Preparing system for suspend
Stopping tasks:
============================================================================|
Restarting tasks... done
I am using 2.6.0-test8 with suspend and sleep states enabled. All other ACPI
functions seems to work fine, my laptop is an R505DL.
How can I debug this?

I don't know whether patch at http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1433 address this issue.

Wow, could you please post patches to the list? You get very little exposure for fixes posted solely through bugzilla, which means your effort goes wasted. Ditto for dialog about bugs. I don't track bugs there; I consider the mailing lists to be the proper forum for doing so. If you or someone else would like to add play-by-play commentary there (or vice versa) that might be helpful.. But they might otherwise go unnoticed. It's pretty strange that OSDL goes to the trouble of setting up a bugzilla, and you want people to do things the old way.
I think the general consensus is that email is not a good bug tracking system. However, you can subscribe to acpi-bugzilla if you really want visibility into acpi bug updates through email.

You of all people should know that the efforts of some parts of the company do not reflect the opinions of some of the individuals of that company. FWIW, OSDL did not set up the bugzilla database; it simply donated hardware and are hosting it. AFAIK, it is maintained by a group of developers at IBM. Posting patches solely to a bug-tracking database eliminates the possibility of review or feedback through the traditional means - email. It severely limits visibility to the people that actively track the database and/or subscribe to yet another splinter list. Many people are not willing to do that because it adds unnecessary steps to the review process or simply because they do not have time. > I think the general consensus is that email is not a good bug tracking system. However, you can subscribe to acpi-bugzilla if you really want visibility into acpi bug updates through email. Ugh. *Another* list? All I want to do is see the patches. I think you're just complaining because it's fun.
