ACPI status in 2.4 tree

Hi ACPI guyz,


are 2.4's release candidates sync'ed w/ ACPI?
IOW, if I get 2.4.23-rc2, will it include the latest ACPI code from acpi.sf.net
(except the test patches) or will I have to get'n'apply a patch?

Why not just looking in the log? at ?

That's exactly what I did (and I use to), but I did't know if the [ACPI]
prefix implies that it's a sync' between acpi.sf.net project and Linux kernel
or a simple ACPI stuff merged to Linux. That's why I was asking :-\.

Yep, that's also what I did. Found patches against 2.4.23-rc1.. and
it says nothing about rc2 merging status.

How funny that people cannot say "yes" or "no" and prefer sending
unclear answers :-\.

language). I meant that I use to look at the download site and the kernel
changelog to find the latest ACPI code.

My question was not "where to find ACPI patches for kernel X or Y?". I was just
wondering in *usually* kernel pre-releases and release candidates were waiting
for latest acpi to be merged or if acpi development were not sync'ed but for
stable releases. And if more precisely, the ACPI merging shown in rc2's
changelogs mean that all the latest ACPI changes were merged to the kernel
source (IOW: is is necessary to apply patches over 2.4.23-rc2 to get the
latest ACPI stuff).

Moreover, in a more educational way, showing books to a dumb guy won't
help, neither showing books without teaching how to read :-).

Sorry for my unclear answer.  RC mean somehow code freeze, so there
is good luck that you will have only acpi fix merged.
To know what is really integrated in mainstream, you have to take a look
for the log.  That apply also for other kernel projects as well.

I hope I am a little bit more clear now.

Tried to apply the rc1 acpi patch against rc2 and got a regect on all
items (Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected!  Assume -R? [n])
so it seems that rc2 already has that patch included (from my experience
up to now the new kernel version always has the acpi patch for the
previous one included).

We use BK to merge into the baseline kernel, so as of this morning,
everything in the ACPI release tree
http://linux-acpi.bkbits.net:8080/linux-acpi-release-2.4.23 is also in
marcelo's 2.4 tree http://linux.bkbits.net:8080/linux-2.4 which is where
2.4.23-rc2 comes from.

So the patch on kernel.org is already obsolete, as it has already been
applied to the 2.4.23 baseline.

This is not true for a base release that is frozen, such as 2.4.22
because it stopped accepting patches long ago.  So for 2.4.22 (and soon
2.4.23) you'd grab the frozen base release and then apply the ACPI
release patch on top of it to get the latest ACPI changes.
