Hi,
I just migrated from APM to ACPI, and things are a little weird. Any
advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running Fedora Core 1 with a 2.6.6 kernel (with ACPI patches from
here applied) on an HP Omnibook 4150B. I've got a lid.sh script that
is triggered with the lid button is pressed, and does a "echo standby
> /sys/power/state". Initially, this works well. I close the lid, it
goes to sleep. I open the lid and press the power button, it wakes
up. And then goes right back to sleep. (I don't currently have any
events triggered by the power button.) Pressing the power button again
wakes the laptop up, and this time it stays up. However, ACPI won't
generate any more lid events at all. Power button events still seem to
be generated fine.
Is this a known bug? Is it a problem with my hardware?
thanks,
Kevin Eustice

Hi.
Do you also see keventd sucking all available CPU? If so, this is a known
issue.

Nigel

No, actually, I don't. ps doesn't show keventd running at all. This
seems odd.

Ahh. I do have [events/0] though, which is what you meant? This thread
seems to be behaving normally--mostly sleeping; top shows the process
status as "SW<". It's niced to -10.

Are you sure it is not because you receive "lid open" event?

Yup. After going to standby mode, ACPI no longer registers any event
other than the powerbutton events.

You are not alone and a similar bug with several proposed patches is
already open (for months now) at :
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2321
Note that apparently, the rewrite of the GPE handling is underway and
things should be fixed soon (at least that is what len says...)

A related issue for Thinkpads:
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2644
Basically, disabling the lid GPE even though it's marked wake/run makes
suspend fail as soon as the lid switch is pressed.
