salut
:) Yes !
now, it works wery well for me.
I played with kernel configuration, i found this:
I guess, Problem was in "Enhanced RTC driver". If i have this driver
inside a kernel (or like module), my laptop will never poweroff().
last message was like this:
...
call_power_off()
...HANG...
(also i have inserted HPET timer inside kernel, not like module)
Is this some unresolved dependency with RTC ?
Can i have both timers ? (RTC, HPET )
Thanks a lot.

YESSSSS
Worked for me too. Replaced the enhanced by the generic with extended, and
it worked.
How did you spot that? Anyway, it was well spotted indeed. Might be worth
reporting to people responsible for that (?).
Thanks.

I can post this bug.
I found some similar bug :
Bugzilla Bug 2719:
[ATI 9100IGP, Award/Phoenix BIOS]: halt becomes reboot
when BIOS "Wake up on RTC" is enabled
but, i don't think, that this is the same problem, or not ?

maybe it could be mentioned in the text... But I think a new report is
required.
Boy I had a bad experience! Just tryed to reproduce your problems, by
loading module-rtc. The machine was just started and waited at the
KDM-prompt. Loading the module and shuting down crashed my
ext2-filesystem, loosing some files. That is really bad! Of course it did
not power-off, as you all experienced.

Here is my update for the Acer TravelMate 634.
I have the following set (or rather _NOT_ set) in my kernel and I can now
power off correctly:
# CONFIG_HPET_EMULATE_RTC is not set
# CONFIG_RTC is not set
# CONFIG_GEN_RTC is not set
Also. I had been having problems with my computer randomly freezing. I
thought this was a problem with ACPI, or perhaps an old BIOS, however it
is not.
When I upgraded to the 2.6 kernel I did not have the right drivers
installed for my touch pad. It was half installed and as a result it
was causing all kinds of problems. I now have the Synaptics drivers
properly installed and everything (seems to be) working again. A _huge_
thank you to Hartwig Felger for helping me to track this problem down!

Hi Emma, mizu, hgfelger,
it works! I've isolated the problem.
I only had CONFIG_RTC=Y in my kernel and that was the only problem.
I've set
# CONFIG_RTC is not set
and everything works now.

Is there a place where you can configure parameters for your machine
model? Eg my laptop will need noapic to function. I can of cause set
that parameter, but novices would not know this, and it would be better
if the make and model be detected and the parameter always set.
This is, I wonder if there is a repository for the make and models in
the kernel.
best regards
keld

Best regards
