Hello.
I gave kernel 2.6.9-rc1 a spin and discovered that my Acer 1357LMi
laptop does not poweroff anymore but simply reboots at the end of the
shutdown sequence. From 2.6.5 (first kernel I used on this laptop) up to
2.6.8.1 included it worked as expected. The acpi version in 20040715 in
2.6.9-rc1 and in 2.6.8.1 is 20040326, system is Debian/testing.
I searched the archives and found nothing relevant (at least, not
obviously so to me). I am now subscribed to the list and I'll be happy
to provide more information and do some testing, just let me know.
BR,
Andrea.

Didn't get any responses then though. I'm running FC2. But the distro doesn't matter since the problem appears even if you bypass the init. I quoted my distro info just to give a (rough) idea of the average "age" of the software installed on the system, I agree with you it doesn't really matter beyond that. Anyway... yes, I can confirm the same happens here, with a twist: I found out laptop_mode wasn't shutting down the hd anymore and the reason is.... according to /proc/acpi, I never installed the battery and never pulled the power plug, which of course is just what I did to confirm your idea. No matter how many times I plug/unplug the ac adapter and how long I wait before each cycle, proc still reports ac online and battery missing. Even more puzzled than I was when I posted 8-) BR, Andrea. -- Homepage: http://andrea.borgia.bo.it / Amateur radio: IZ4FHT A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. I am not using SMBus at all... when I found out that the key information I got from SMBus (cpu temperature) was also available via acpi, I completely disabled SMBus support and removed userspace utilities. I can send you the kernel config, if you need it. BR, Andrea. My notebook (Compaq Presatio 2100z) simply doesn't shut off. It says "Power off" and then simply hangs. Reboot works just find still.
