This is quite normal. When you press the WiFi button, you'll see
similar messages (with different eXXX codes). 
On my TravelMate 4000WLMi, WiFi works like a charm, and the WiFi
button works as well. Haven't tried BlueTooth.

I've used the setkeycodes program to assign key codes, and use
xbindkeys to intercept the codes to generate on screen display
messages.

Yes, it does. When I press the BlueTooth button I get a e058, and the
WiFi button alternates e055 (On) and e056 (Off). This is a TravelMate
4001WLMi; your actual codes can differ.

k, but binding a keycode didnt enable BT, we need to know the values to
write to the control and data registry of the keyboard controller.
with such 2 values it's then easy to enable Bt...
but how pich then without reverse engineering the windows drivers?

Okay. Attached is "acer_keys", a script to run at boot time to map all
unmapped Acer specific keys to keycodes.
Note that the key code set is different from the one received by X,
but that seems to be a known problem.
Also attached is ".xbindkeysrc", a bindkeys configuration to intercept
some of these keys and do something.
xbindkeys is probably on your computer already, if not, use Google.
xosd is a small script (attached) that uses osd-cat (Google) to show
on-screen message.

No, i'm very happy with it, really ;). And it seems a laptop model 
which several linux users choosed to buy, acpi-devel is full of them :)).

let me make myself clear: i'm very happy with it too! it was very cheap 
comparing with equivalent models of other brands. it's excellent value for money.
