D600 + S3 Sleep

Hi All,

	Anyone here managed to get S3 to work on the D600?

I'm on 2.6.11 kernel and still the same Black Screen after resume
persists.

I've tried Software Suspend 2 and By golly, it's much faster then SW1.

Yes, it's quite simple and reliable, you need to append vga=normal to
your command-line as neither vesafb nor radeonfb play nice. 

After that - my mileage has been good (4 or 5 day suspends, and 8 or 9
day uptimes so far), yours may vary though

vga=normal??

So that means no High-Res Console??

Right now, I'm using

root=/dev/hda3 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1280x1024-24@60
splash=verbose,theme:emergence resume2=swap:/dev/hda5

So.. I need to remove all of those and only left with this??

root=/dev/hda3 vga=normal resume2=swap:/dev/hda5 ??

Looks about right ... I think I have something else in there as well ...
just checking now ...

Nope, used to have something in to have acpi ignore irq7 which was a
common problem pre 2.6.9 iirc ... vga=normal is all I have now !

(Just realised the laptop's been in S3 for the last four days ! and only
half the battery gone !)

not much hope here, i have had one of our X developers pondering over this
one (he knows the radeon chipsets pretty well) but to no avail. It seems
the machine never wakes up if _any_ framebuffer is used (radeonfb also does
not work).

I wonder if it is possible to restore original text mode when
suspending? Probably not with vesafb but with other specialize FB
drivers?

We don't know how to program text mode on most cards.

I konw the FB stuff works if the acpi_late_bios patch is used per:

But I've not been bothered to test it personally !

I've tested it and it worked.

But it was too much work to get S3 done so I dropped it.

Now that I saw S3 is working for others, I thought I try again.

And Yes, Proinnsais, sadly the config you mentioned, I tried but it
doesn't work. It doesn't Come back up. POST for the video doesn't happen
for some reason for my config.

Not sure why and not sure how much of an incentive I have to go do it
since S4 with suspend2 works like a charm. (Except for the stupid
Xscreensaver thing causing intermittent hangs. I've sent an email to
suspend2 list)

For what it's worth - my D600 is running BIOS A14 and is a 1.6Ghz with
the full centrino (ipw2200), Radeon M9 and 1400*1050 14" screen.

It's not a vanilla kernel, rather Ubuntu's current 2.6.10 which I
believe contains the 2.6.11 acpi code.

Grub boots the kernel with only : root=/dev/hda2 ro vga=normal

What BIOS do you have - and indeed - what command-line are you using ?

It's annoying to get going - but shouldn't take so much time - the
laptop can remain in S3 suspend for 5 days or more easily.

I'm using suspend2-sources from gentoo. Basically it's 2.6.11 patched
with suspend2 and gensplash and a few fixes from 2.6.11.2 (IIRC)

Was A14, upgraded to A15 to see if it works.

Any chance it's the ndiswrapper is causing the problems ? 

Which wireless chipset do you have ? if it's the ipw2100 (you mentioned
802.11b earlier), it might be worth using the ipw drivers which seem to
suspend safely ?

That's about the only big difference I can see !

I am using "vga=normal", the X-Server restores the backlight for me.
(it also works well with vbetool restore IIRC, but i did not test the
last few weeks).

This is the upcoming SUSE 9.3 configuration. Works for me since at least 
8 Weeks (always tracking the latest kernel and using pretty latest X.org)

Well swsusp is also fast for me, but i have never compared it to swsusp2.
