As my computer told me to send an output of dmidecode to
linux-acpi@vger.kernel.org I do it.

My Notebook is a Samsung R40plus with Ubuntu 7.10 as operatig system. It works
fine. Suspend and Hibernation doesn't work and the system startup is really
slow. My PIII @ 600 Mhz it boots up in 20 seconts. My notebook takes up to 3
minutes (but not at every boot, sometimes it takes only 20 seconds)

Bu here is the output:

ulli@ubuntunotebook:~$ sudo dmidecode
[sudo] password for ulli:

With 2.6.22, did you notice any functional difference with "acpi_osi=!Linux"?

(or since the default changed at 2.6.23, with 2.6.23 or later
do you notice any difference with "acpi_osi=Linux"?)

Please send me the output from acpidump.
If you don't have acpidump, you can get it from pmtools here:
http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/acpi/utilities.php

thanks,
-Len

thanks for the acpidump.
I wouldn't expect it to change for each case, though curiously,
some bits inside the HPET table did change.

Venki, should I be concerned about the "Hardware Block ID"?

So I I think it is not a good idea to enable OSI(Linux) on this box.
For it enables nothing, and disables hooks for Vista and newer.

It would be interesting if you notice any difference in the dmesg
with and without acpi_osi=Linux in 2.6.24-rc -- particularly any
messages about the timers.

that is because twice you locked up.

Did this same failure happen back in 2.6.22?
What is the most recent kernel where this did not happen?

I don't understand this message:
> [ 344.253937] toshiba_acpi: Unknown parameter `hotkeys_over_acpi'

Since 2.6.24-rc8 does not contain that symbol.

maybe you should boot a static 2.6.24-rc8 kernel with no drivers
and no initrd and see how that works?

thanks,
-Len
