S3 at 2.4.X ? backports from 2.5 ??

Hi
Suse ( i think some of you heard of them --?! ) claims to use a backport 
of kernel 2.5 to get a good ACPI installation ..
My question now is ... : is something like that possible ? and if yes , 
how do i do that

It would be pretty hard to make S3 work in backport...
