I have similar problem on my FSC AmiloD 8820.
But by the way, before you take off the battery and unplug the
PSU, try to switch of the notebook by pressing the power button
for more than 5 seconds (perhaps even 10sec).
As on the newer PCs, the button is a "soft button" and in most
cases you can switchoff the system with holding down for such
a time (hardware curcuit switches off, if system hangs !).
