Hi,
It's been a while since I've kept up with the acpi-development, but as
far as I remember, there were some problems switching between the
flatpanel and an external monitor on some ASUS centrino laptops (more
specifically the M2400N)
I was wondering, how status is now ?? Is it working now, as the dsdt in
the bios is used instead of a pathed one from the os ?
I have not been near the laptop for a while, so I can't just go test :-(
Regards,
Mads

As you probably remember, I can speak about the M3N, not the M2400N...
- - Fn+F8 switches correctly from LCD (internal) and CRT (external), but
just one of them, I mean, you can't use the 2 together as in mirror mode.
- - swtiching via 'acpi4asus' doesn't work on M3N and AFAIK neither on M2N
- - the 'i810switch' tool at http://vorlon.ces.cwru.edu/~ames/i810switch/
doesn't work: if you choose CRT:on and LCD:on, the CRT is turned on but
it remains blank, while the image is still on the LCD. Anyway, it seems
that the Intel 82855GM is supported only in CRT mode (but on my laptop
this doesn't work at all, I'm going to write to the author).
Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Is this ACPI issue? If yes, please provide some detail.
Thanks,
Luming

I don't know about the M2N/M3N, but monitor switching is an ACPI
features on some ASUS laptops. From the 'acpi4asus' readme:
| You can turn the LCD panel on/off or read its status by echoing 0 or
1 in the
| lcd entry or reading it.
<cut>
| 4.1.1 Display switching
|
| Note: the display switching code is currently considered EXPERIMENTAL.
|
| Switching works for the following models:
| L3800C
| A2500H
|
| Switching doesn't work for the following:
| M3700N
| L2X00D (locks the laptop under certain conditions)
|
| To switch the displays, echo values from 0 to 7 to
/proc/acpi/asus/disp. The
| significance of those values is as follows:
|
| 0 - no display
| 1 - LCD only
| 2 - CRT only
| 3 - LCD + CRT
| 4 - TV-Out only
| 5 - LCD + TV-Out
| 6 - CRT + TV-Out (not tested)
| 7 - LCD + CRT + TV-Out (not tested)
|
| In most cases, the appropriate displays must be plugged in for the above
| combinations to work. TV-Out may need to be initialized at boot time.
Maybe Karol Kozimor can explain better :-)
Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Not as far as I know. The video driver is responsible for anything
more involved than what currently works. In particular, we'd need
driver support to drive both outputs independantly. The DSDT just
provides for cycling between LCD, CRT and LCD+CRT (cloned). The issue
that these combinations can only be cycled through, not set directly,
is due to the BIOS/DSDT, but not a big issue anyhow.
Cheers
Robert
