Hello dear ACPI fellows!
I am using an Acer TravelMate 654LCi with debian/sid on it running
always the latest -mm kernels (ATM 2.6.8.1-mm3).
I have encountered the following problems with ACPI:
- The battery does not deliver the discharging rate, it is always 0:
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: discharging
present rate: 0 mA
remaining capacity: 2749 mAh
present voltage: 11520 mV
- The AC adapter does not send *any* events.
Neither when plugged in nor unplugged.
- The battery gives periodic events:
battery BAT1 00000080 00000001
battery BAT2 00000080 00000000
(although there is NO battery 2 installed!)
-----------------------------------------------
No for something related to this: Suspend2XXX.
With S2D I had success up to 2.6.7-mm5 (I didn't check all the inbetween
kernels), but with 2.6.8.1-mmX and rc4-mmX the laptop suspends without
any problems (besides I have to stop mysqld), even with X running (ATI
Radeon 7500M 0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies
Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]).
With the newer kernels resuming does not work anymore, there are many
Ooops. (I know, I should write them down on a sheet of paper, I will try
to collect them with usb-serial console).
For S2R: I got this pretty nice working, I had to stop USB, and various
other stuff, and with boot-radeon I get my console back again.
The only thing I am not getting right is X. Switching to X always makes
a hard freeze. Not even Sysrq works anymore. What I am using is
xlibmesa-dri 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6
xlibmesa-gl1-dri-trunk 2004.02.28-2
xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk 2004.02.28-2
(the last two packages are from http://people.debian.org/~daenzer/
----------------------------------------------------------------
Now my questions:
- Can the missing battery (dis)charge rate be fixed? Is this an hardware
defect, i.e. the battery does not send the information, or are there
other reasons?
- Same with the AC Adapter, why does it send no event at all?
- What can I try out to get S2D back again and S2R fully working?
Thanks a lot for any help and I will try to send you all the relevant
information you may ask for!
Best wishes
Norbert

Which kernel? The dsdt in initrd patch doesn't work with 2.6.8.1 for some reason. Try the patch which compiles the dsdt into the kernel. Read the "another extensive manual", 9a > Umpf, well, yes, this works. But now even making a > ps -ax > makes the redrawing stumble. Thanks for the information, I will check on this. > > Umpf, well, yes, this works. But now even making a > > ps -ax > > makes the redrawing stumble. Unloading it make ssuspend/resume (to/from disk) work even with full system running. Well, the dsdt stuff is not too bad I would say. There have been only three small problems. When I think back to the dsdt I had on an old dell inspiron it was much worse AFAIR. AND: If you are in kicking the engenieers: Could you please ask them WHY ON EARTH did they set the latency limit of the C2 state to 101, effectively disabling the usage of C2? I am running my laptop since long time with a patch to disable the limit check for C2 and have NO problems till now (see www.logic.at/people/preining/acer/ for the C2 hack and the DSDT fix). Ok, with the b44 code: int b44_open b44_alloc_consistent request_irq in b44_alloc_consistent there are several kmalloc calls, memsets and a call to pci_alloc_consistent. Nothing else. That's just because you hadn't ifup'd the device yet. But I still suspect a driver issue; your IRQ routing looks like it should be OK, but somebody is sending repeated interrupts. You could test with "acpi=noirq", but I don't think that will help. What seems to be happening is the b44 hardware (or somebody else on irq5, maybe usb) is posting interrupts and the b44's status bit is never getting cleared. This could be happening because the PCI card's I/O space hasn't been mapped. When I/O space is not mapped, you tend to read 0xFF from the I/O space, which would cause our IRQ handler to behave like this. I guess it wouldn't be mapped because the machine has just booted (resume from disk.) I'm not sure why the kernel doesn't seem to remap the I/O space when we call pci_enable_device(), but I have seen and fixed similar issues in 3c59x. See http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-net&m=109228179320361&w=2 Maybe what's happening here is the kernel believes I/O is already mapped, because it has loaded the memory image from before suspend. I think the first step is to fix the b44 driver's suspend and resume callbacks. They are definitely missing some critical PCI calls. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 22+ messages in thread
