Need some serious help. I am a newbie to linux. I am using Suse 9.3
with Kernel 2.6.11..4-20a on an Acer Travelmate 4000LCi. It uses the
smart battery and would realy like to see the status of my battery. it
is the only thing I have not been able to do just yet. Everything
else seems to be just fine. I could use some help (remember I am a
newbie) in getting this done, I want to try Rich Townsends fix but am
afraid that all the work i have done to get everything else working
would be lost. A step by step would be great, also I have never
recompiled a kernel so have no idea where to begin.
Thanks in advance - Bo

Hi Bo,

If Suse provides for DSDT overriding upon boot (I've heard some
rumours on that, but I'm not familiar with Suse) _AND_ someone can
provide an augmented DSDT for your particular notebook, it would be as
easy as installing a file and rebooting. But that would require
assistance of another Travelmate 4000LCi user.

Otherwise, my suggestion would be to consult the Suse mailing lists on
how to re-create your current (installed) kernel. When you are able to
do that, I'd advise to take Rich Townsends sbs module that implements
the classical battery status API.

Yes, that function is indeed shipped by SUSE. IIRC the handbook
mentions how to do it.

It's a bit different: Copy new DSDT to a specific location, set
ACPI_DSDT="location_of_DSDT" in /etc/sysconfig/kernel, run mkinitrd
and reboot.
