Several problems with Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A7645

Hi *.

I recently bought a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A7645 (a laptop), which is
giving me some problems with ACPI. I do not know much about ACPI,
therefore I'm here to ask you how I shall proceed to solve the problems.
I am running Debian, Linux Kernel version 2.6.12 (Debian extra version:
-amd64-k8).

Most annoying problem: the battery status is not always accessible.
Sometimes the GNOME battery applet can not access it. Neither can the
program 'acpi' that comes with the Debian package "acpi". In
/var/log/messages I find:

Then, after I tried a couple of times, the battery status comes back. I
tried to compile and install the kernel 2.6.13 (taken from kernel.org)
but the problem remains. I must add that probably I did not play enough
with the configuration.

Two other problems that might be related to this one.

    * I have installed the package "laptop-mode" which should deal with
      power management. When I close the LID, the LCD goes off, but it
      stays like this also when I open it again. (The LEDs of the
      computer are still on, and the fan is spinning). The only thing I
      can do is to keep the power button pressed to switch off the
      laptop. However, sometimes the LCD comes back to normal.
    * Sometimes (again!), after I issued a 'poweroff', the computer does
      not switch off, the LEDs are still on and the fan is still
      spinning and I have to keep pressed the power button to complete
      the shut-down.

I apologise for my frequent use of the adverb "sometimes", but I could
not find a way to systematically reproduce the problem.

What shall I do now?

P.S. I do not know if the following is still related to ACPI, but maybe
you can give me still some good hint: it seems that when the Xorg server
wants to switch off the LCD, for instance after a 'xset dpms force off',
it forgets to switch off the backlight. Any idea why?
