Hi,
My system:
Acer 5024 notebook
SuSE 10.0
My problem:
The notebook will not poweroff at shutdown.
I guess there is something wrong with ACPI. However I have no clue where to
start looking. Can anyone give me a hand on troubleshouting?
Thanks
Oliver

take a look at http://tuxmobil.org/acer.html
there are three reports listed about your machine. no SuSe, though.

Yes, I know these. But no one seems to have problems with the power button. I
couldn't googel any other complain about the power button for this notebook.
I could find several power off complains for other devices, but their
solutions didn't work for me. That's why I ended up here as the last
resort :).

I had similar problems, I noticed that knoppix v4.0 powered of just fine. So I
copied the kernel .config, made a few changes pertaining to drivers that get
compiled it, and it works. I really do not know which option(s) made the
difference though....

SuSE YOU and kernel hacking are bad friends. I looked into .config but
couldn't find anything suspicious. (see extract at the end of this mail)
I wonder how much this could be related to a bad DSDT. I searched the DSDT
database. There is one for the ACER 5024, however it is marked as "1.13
original", thus I guess it is the plain original DSDT of the notebook.
I found this at the end of dmesg:
Call Trace: <IRQ> <ffffffff801581b5>{__report_bad_irq+53}
<ffffffff801583c7>{note_interrupt+439}

Looks like the ndiswrapper for my Broadcom Wireless LAN Card messes around
with the acpi stuff. I don't know if this is related to my problem.
Any ideas for further investigations?
Oliver

Ndiswrapper should be unrelated (just try without loading the module and you'll know).
I got reports for an ACER Ferrari.
Some reported that uncommenting the gfxmenu entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst helped.
For some others it will reveal another problem then: shutdown is doing a reboot one time...

Good luck,
