Since the hotkey values for brightness up and brightness down are
identical on Toshiba laptops, it would also make sense to let the kernel

Those are great news to hear, but I have a question.
Is the new /dev/toshiba interface going to have support for HCI only
or also for SCI?
That is because a small program I'm doing for KDE uses both interfaces
for accesing battery save mode, battery info, display brightness, etc.
to the user, so it will be great to have an SCI interface also, this
is just in case the "toshiba" driver fails my program can use
"toshiba_acpi" driver instead or viceversa.

Yes, the /dev/toshiba provided by toshiba_acpi will support HCI and
SCI-- it's exactly the same as the toshiba driver. If you want to try
it, the patch has been available for some time at
