Acer TM636 won't wakeup after S3, USB, i8042

Hi,

Reading some positive reports on S3 on a travelmate 632, I gave it
another try with my 636. After adding the acpi_sleep=s3_bios (thanks
mizu) I got some visual signs of resume for the first time. But then
the process halts. If I include USB support in the kernel, I get the
following msgs

ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:00:06.0[A] -> GSI 11 (level,low) -> IRQ 11
PCI: ENabeling device 0000:00:0b.0 (0080->0083)

And then it stops. Removing USB support gets me a bit further, now the process ends with:

i8042.c: Can't read CTR while initializing i8042.
resume failed: i8042.c (Not sure about this line, typing it from memory)


Is there anything I can do to help to debug this? I attached lspci -vvv,
if there's any other log I can send, just ask.

Kernel attempts to resume keyboard controller but it is so dead that it's
not responding to even the basic command...

OK, that's definitely not good... Does somebody has an idea what the
problem could be? Maybe what to do about it?

Have you tried booting with "pci=routeirq"?  If you have
CONFIG_PNPACPI=y, can you try turning that off?  And these
patches fix a known suspend/resume issue:

These patches are for swsusp and Tim is complaining about S3 resume.
I'd still try routeirq and disabling PNPACPI though.

My understanding that i8042 is not a standalone piece nowadays and is
usally part of a kitchen sink^W^W SuperIO microcontroller which has to
be properly setup by BIOS before kernel can access the part that
emulates i8042. It looks that in some cases ACPI(?) misses this step
and when i8042.c tries to restore KBC parameters it fails to respond.
But I am not sure.

Tried all combinations of en/disabling pci=routeirq and
CONFIG_PNPACPI=y. Nothing helped.

Is there a way to find out this theory is correct?

/proc/acpi/sleep"

OK, I finally had some time to test this a bit. Indeed removing atkbd
from the kernel seems to work! My notebook resumed fro S3 the first time
in its life! Also compiling it in as a module won't hang the resume
phase, it will unfortunately not (re)load on resume,/

So (one of) my problems with resume seems to come from atkbd. Should I
report a bug some where? I do unfortunately don't have the time to
become a kernel hacker and fix it myself at the moment ;(

Hmm, now it even works with atkbd compiled in ... In trying to get S3 to
work I more or less disabled everything. So the problem isn't solely
atkbd, but a combination of atkbd and/or i8042 with some other driver.
I'll try enabling some drivers and see what combinations generates the
problem, but not very soon, this free evening is over for me...
