Dear lists,

New binary snapshots of the DRI suspend/resume modified Radeon drivers are
available at http://cpbotha.net/dri_resume.html - these are the first DRI
suspend/resume driver snapshots since the merge of XFree86 HEAD into the DRI
tree. The updated patches are of course also available at the mentioned URL.

For those who don't know: these are modifications to the DRI Radeon drivers
which allow you to suspend to and resume from disc whilst running a
3D-capable X, even whilst running hardware-accelerated 3D applications.

Thanks,
Charl

Hi Charl,
One question: I have installed xserver-Xfree86-dri-trunk-2002.11.06-2,
kernel 2.4.20 with latest drm tree (1.7.0) and the dri patch of
20021203. Your new resume patch will work with debian trunk packages?

Thanks for your attention,

PD:Hardware is Radeon M7 LW...with a clevo 5600.

There should be no problem... it's exactly the same as the dri.sf.net
binaries, except that it has my patch integrated and installs its own
copy of the XFree86, libxaa.a and libpcidata.a binaries as well. These
have all been built from a 20021203 checkout of the DRI tree.

Good laptop... ;)

Good luck,
Charl

ps. You know about the SSE problems in current DRI? If some of your
applications quit with a FPE, start them with env var MESA_NO_SSE=1 ...
this bug manifested after the latest Mesa merge.

mmm it won't install. This is the output:

Uh! I don't knew nothing about it. But I 've not see nothing strange in
my 3D apps (quake3 mostly). But thanks for the comment.

PD: I haven't be able to install swsusp(beta16)-vainilla
+acpi20021126-2.4.20-rc3.diff with linux-2.4.20 final release of the
kernel, and because of this, your resume-patch doesn't have any sense
for my hardware (at this moment).

Could you attach the dri.log file please. It would help very much to know
why the compilation failed. :)

I'm still happily running 2.4.18 + acpi 20020918 + swsuspv12. This is
rocksolid on my Clevo 5600, with the only caveat that I have to re-set the
MTRRs at resume in my suspend.sh script as swsuspv12 doesn't look after
MTRRs yet. I believe v14 does... I'm sticking to this combination until I
_know_ that the ext3 corruption rumours about 2.4.20 are false and that the
ACPI + latest swsusp patches work on 2.4.20.

Thanks very much for the report!

Regards,
Charl

could you told me what X version against are your dri
        patches?

I am having a bad time (not being an XFree hacker) to merge the X part
of your patch (the kernel patch was a no brainer).

Basically my problem is that there is not:
- ati/radeon_common.h file (and I didn't found any of the other
  DRM_RADEON_* diffs).
- in the radeon_dri.c::RADEONDRIResume() has a call to
  +    _ret = drmCommandNone(info->drmFD, DRM_RADEON_CP_RESUME);

I am completely unable to find that command in my XFree tree :(

I am using XFree86-4.2.1-11mdk. We used the gatos patch, but old ati
code don't have either that function :(

Any help or advice on where can I found the CVS change where the
drmCommandNone was introduced is welcome. I looked at the Changelogs
and see no mention of that changes :(

Later, Juan.

I have clarified the web page (http://cpbotha.net/dri_resume.html)
somewhat. The patch is very specifically for DRI CVS and NOT for
4.2.x. I don't think it'll work on 4.2.1 to tell you the truth.

Soon I am going to make sure that it applies cleanly on XFree86 HEAD CVS
as well for possible submission into the repository. Those will be your
two options then: either XFree86 DRI CVS or XFree86 HEAD CVS.

Thanks,
Charl
