Speaking of wmacpi: what is your favorite (acpi-related) docapp for
your laptop? 

wmacpi is quite nice (needs a couple of patches, though).
wmlaptop is also quite nice, but its ACPI support doesn't seem up to
	 date.
wmpower is also nice, etc.
wmacpimon doesn't get the values right.

Most of them have some form of libacpi that does a varying job. It is
clear that using the SBS info would be much easier, and better.

I was talking 1.34, and didn't know you took over maintenance until I
read your previous mail.

The patches required for 1.34 concern the selection of batteries (on
my --and other-- systems it selects the second (absent) battery) and
adding a -geometry command line option (I run the dockapps as
individual programs, w/o suitable window manager). I also corrected
some of the colours in the pixmap (so you can change the colour of the
LCD segments in one edit).

I did, and I can't get it to work at all. I get an empty, zero-sized
window. Could be my lack of suitable window manager, though.

libdockapp 1.50 seems to be read protected, so I couldn't test the 2.1
RC.

detailed output of all associated /proc/files. I hope this helps.

Well, you should be able to run it even without wmaker, but I
personally haven't tested it . . .

Thanks - I'll hack something up basd on that, but I'd still like
some documentation ;-) Richard's response to my other email shows
why it's necessary.

I use the kde thingy, klaptopdaemon, I think... works very well. reports AC
adapter presence and battery charge in percentage. not sure if it reports time
to empty...

hacking the lib would be the best way to use enhanced SBS information, although
I guess the driver state is not very matured to get people writing libraries to
access it. Also, having info/state entries in /proc is being "deprecated". /sys
was built for that and gradually all kernel drivers will be using it for
userspace interaction...

It does, if you still the mouse pointer over it.  Does the same with time
to fully charged, but seems to be broken...
