Dear All,

I am sorry this is not the write list for this question. But i thought
so many sys admins will be there on the list, so some body can help me.

What is the best chat server that can run on Linux which should have
some good clients on Linux and Windows ?

Thanks & Regards
Murali

Jabber will not do completely.
It doesn't show you all the logged in users. You need to add all the
users to your friends list. I don't want that. Users list should
automatically come like chat rooms.

If you want a chat room, then maybe you need an IRC client like
http://www.pjirc.com/

I set up a company with Corporate ICQ once, it was free, but the
server runs on NT, and I never tried to connect a Linux ICQ client to
it. It's kinda discusting, but they use it a lot, even over a WAN.

Best to search freshmeat.net and sourceforge.net and try a couple out
for yourself.

Good Luck.

Scott.

We have been using IRC for IM and file exchange in our company network
for several years. At first we tried another protocols (FTP, SMTP) but our
users (lusers, if you like) like IRC more. They consider it is more easy and
convinient for them. You can find a lot of free IRC servers for Linux in the
Internet.

Mikhail.
