You may want to try fuser -c /directory to find out what process id is
using the directory.  That should point you in the right direction.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. I ended up getting it. None of the
fuser stuff would work becuase the directory was mounted through nfs and I
would get a Stale NFS file error, some how by re-exporting the directory
on the host, and restarting my nfs services it started working again.
