Could anybody please advise me of a good discussion forum for Linux, it
has to be robust because it will have a lot of activity. Any
recommendations? Thank you!!

phpBB looks quite good (http://www.phpbb.com). Never installed it, but
as a user it's not bad to use.

... you might do well to take a look at 'citadel.org'. originally, if i
recall correctly, cit ran on cp/m. it since has ported to dos/win and
linux. this is a serious bbs application, with attendant whistles and
bells. networking is native to it, and, a web based interface (netscape
or mozilla recommended) for those wishing a gui.
one caveat should you choose a php based system. check
'securityfocus.com' before you make any decisions. there have been more
than a few problems lately with php based 'discussion' applications ...
