Sim --
Check the owner and group, some distros' use apache or www for apache installs, and others nobody?


Also directory permissions should be 755 and file permissions can be
set to 644.

Create a virtual server for apache for domain.com and use a docroot of
"/home/domaincom/htdocs.

These questions are starting to sound an awful like someone taking a linux/unix
class that is to lazy to do there own work.  But here it is anyway

Thank is good information.
If project is just a subdirectory under "htdocs", would this
still be needed ?

IMHO yes
the icons directory is unter htdocs and in the original httpd.conf there
is a entry with alias and a <Directory ... > tag.

apache question

Hi...  I just upgraded the apache to version 1.3.26.  But after the upgrade,
I found that I can't see my contents of the folder.  For eg  if I have some
file (a.html, b.html, c.html)  in /home/httpd/html/project/ folder.  Before
the upgrade, I can see all the files when I point my browser to
http://webserverip/project/ but after the upgrade, when I point my browser
to the URL, I don't have the permission to view the contents any more.  I
